Geological Walk
Following on from Ray Humphreys’ fascinating talk on the Geology of the Dee Valley on 12th July 2024, he kindly offered to act as guide for a walk on the evening of Tuesday July 30th. Members met at the car park near the school in Pentrefoelas for a steady uphill farm track walk to near the summit . The views towards the peaks of Eryri are spectacular from here, to say the least.
The objective for the visit was to introduce us to turbidites and associated processes. The rocks here are Silurian in age and represent a submarine canyon eroded by a gravity current which flowed north into the deep-water basin which is now represented by the rocks of the Denbigh Moors.
