Ffynnon Sara is located on the centuries-old pilgrimage route from Holywell to Bala and beyond about a mile or so north east of St Mary’s church in Derwen. The well is easily accessible though with limited parking available nearby.
Ffynnon Sara is set in a secluded walled enclosure surrounded by trees and large shrubs which give a real feeling of privacy and oneness, a place for contemplation.
Ruins nearby are thought to be that of a cottage where the custodian of the well lived, though the possibility it may have originally been a chapel have not been discounted. CJ.
