Plas Ucha is one of the finest examples of a Medieval crook-house surviving in North Wales, having been sympathetically restored after having been purchased by Merioneth County Council in the early 1970s. Now in the care and management of the Landmark Trust it is open as holiday accomodation, <www.landmarktrust.org.uk/properties/plas-uchaf/>
Originally believed to have been built by the Barons of Cymmer in c1435 in a half-timbered style, it was remodelled in stone throughout in the 16th century and became an important gentry farmstead until at least 1707 before conversion into three labourers cottages.
It remained habitable until c1933 and abandoned completely by 1964, however, Plas Ucha had been granted Grade 1 listed status as early as 1952 such was its importance and this along with the tireless efforts of Peter Smith and Ffrangcon Lloyd resulted in its subsequent restoration.
